Today we woke up at 9.
Went to church in Lexington at 10.
Ry playing with the worship band at 11.
We left church by 12:45.
On the road to Louisville by 1.
Explored Louisville until 4.
I- shot a wedding from 4-10.
Ry- went to a movie, played a round of frisbee golf and joined an ultimate game in the park.
Got back on the road by 10:15.
It’s 11:25 and we are about 15 minutes from home.
I am pooped – but today ruled.
Cincinnati, A Wedding, and How I Met Your Mother
So this Saturday, Ryan and I went to Cincinnati so I could second shoot a wedding.
We left early so we could see what Cincy was all about, and it did not disappoint. We got on the road, and in a jiffy we were there, from Lexington its 80 miles, so like 1.5 hours. Sweet Ryan drove there so I could read some. Like I had said the night before, I was kind of in freak out mode. Almost immediately after I wrote the blog I got on the phone with my dear friend and fellow photog Megan Nolan, and we ended up face timing for 2 hours and by the end of the conversation I was fine, not a nervous bone in my body! I went right to bed and woke up, got ready and we left.
We got to downtown Cincy parked, and went to a famous little Cincinnati eatery, Arnold’s Bar and Grill- Its well known for its burgers, so I got one with SPINACH DIP on it, and Ry just had a man’s burger, meat and bacon and cheese. Then we hit the pavement and came across so many neat landmarks. A cathedral, a few museums, a statue of Abraham Lincoln, and then the best part…. the ohio river. Haha sounds anti climactic, but it was wonderful, there is a huge park that runs up and down it with all sorts of fantastic landscaping, and random art features and play grounds. Since there was just too much to see on foot we rented a tandem bike and cruised up and down the river, rolled past the Red’s stadium, and almost to the Bengals stadium. IT WAS A BLAST, just cruising with ma boo down the river. (wow who am I?) We dropped the bike back off, found the car, and headed to this gem. http://www.cincynature.org/krippendorf.html - The Krippendorf Lodge, at the Cincinnati nature center.
The drive there was beautiful, about 30 minutes outside of town this place was seriously awesome. I was starting to get a little nervous, but told myself to suck it up and get over that real quick. So Ry dropped me and and went to find some disk golf courses and I walked up to the place, found the wonderful Jessica Fey, and started shooting details while she did all of the portraits. I seriously thought I was going to be so darn nervous, but after about 5 minutes I told myself that I knew what I was doing- and that was enough. The couple whose wedding it was were so chill and nice, she wore a gorgeous column dress and a bold necklace, while he rocked a navy suit and tie number. The rest of the wedding went so smoothly and their vows were beautiful, simple, and very short. We cruised around the cocktail hour snapping shots, then sat down for some dinner. About an hour later Ry was there to pick me up and head home. I got in the car with so much energy and excitement because of how well I thought it went and then about 5 minutes into the drive I completely crashed, It seriously took all of my energy, but I was having such a blast at the wedding that I didn’t even notice! -So all in all my first wedding was fantastic, Jessica was so great, and let me shoot a lot of what I wanted to shoot and didn’t really give me and boundaries, the couple was so darn chill, and all of their friends were so fun and silly in front of the camera. I don’t think I could have dreamed a better first time!
As for How I Met Your Mother.
Did anyone watch it? was any one as shocked as I was? Ry said he knew it was going to be Robin and wasn’t surprised at all, but I was kind of ticked. I guess I just didn’t expected that after the elaborate proposal to Quinn. I have been a loyal watcher since 2009 when Ryan came home from Spain and we watched it with all of his roommates, but I am seriously ready to know who the mother is. ANNDDD -totally forgot this part- Victoria. What a the what? Shows up to the bar in her wedding dress? Her and Ted drive off together? -I just don’t know how to feel, I think I need to rematch it.
So there you have it. the most random post ever to hit wordpress.
here is the link to Jessica’s website-(http://www.jessicafeyphotography.com/) She posted a picture of the beautiful bride and groom we got to shoot! – and I will start editing mine when we get back from North Carolina this weekend!
Second shooting
It is almost 10 pm on Friday night and I am watching Big Love and freaking out.
Tomorrow, at 9am Ryan and I are getting in the max and driving to Cincinnati where we will play for a few hours, then I second shoot for my very first time.
I hope I can sleep tonight.
I am so excited.
I am so terrified.
I know this is just one of the first steps to starting my career in photography, and I am so thankful for the opportunity.
So tomorrow around 4:30 say a prayer for me.
I will blog about it later this week!
Thanks friends
xoxo Kat
Kate and Noel Engagement.
OH MAN, I love these two people so much.
Kate and I have been friends since I went to Tech. She seriously has one of the biggest hearts for her friends, and is an excellent question asker (that’s not a word) but for real, this girl asks the BEST questions, every time we have a conversation I walk away having learned something about myself because she would ask me a question so thoughtful that I had never even thought about it. And Noel, this man has had such a huge impact on my husband is that I really could never thank him enough (and thanks for keeping him safe when y’all were traveling all over Europe for 4 months). Ry will be co-best man for Noel, and I get to be a bridesmaid for this FABULOUS wedding. I am so thankful for the opportunity you guys gave me to practice and learn with you guys!
Special thanks for letting us borrow the suitcases when we ran into Tara Hobgood when she was shooting a senior session! She is a FANTASTIIICCCC photographer in the Lubbock area!! You NEED her to take your engagement photos and your wedding. Here is her link http://tarahobgoodphotography.com/
Also if anyone knows any tips to uploading multiple pics at once to WordPress I would love to hear them! And any feedback or constructive criticism is greatly appreciated
May Goals 2012
OK, we all knew this would happen.
I would get real into blogging, then stop, then get back on the wagon again. I have serious issues with committing to this silly ol’ blog.
That being said, I think I’m going to get better. A friend suggested that I have specific days set aside for specific topics. i.e. five friday favorites (i love alliteration so that might become a thing) and anything else I can dream up.
Speaking of dreams.
I want to start making monthly goals. A lot of my favorite bloggers post their monthly goals, personal and professional. Professional? What does that mean for Kat Marcum? She’s no professional? Professional what? Wife? Cook? Napper? Well yes those are all things I could pursue professionally because I rule at all of them. But it’s time that I put myself and my dreams and goals out there.
I want to get serious about photography.
I feel like speaking/typing it out loud and not just dreaming about it all day in my head will help it become more of a reality. and potentially help build up clientele.
I know this takes time, knowledge, patience, practice, and I am willing and ready to continue this process. I just ask for your prayers in this endeavor!
I am so excited for this next chapter in our lives in Wilmore! So if you need any pictures taken lemme know
ha!
So to start my goals for the month here we go.
Personal: -drink more water. -do some form of exercise for at least 30min-one hour a day -read a book every month. (this is not restricted to one book a month, so if i read more than one don’t freak out. One of my favorite bloggers reads a book and month, she calls it 12 for 12, and I like that name so I’ll borrow it!) -explore lexington more. I want to find a place a week that I enjoy and document it! Professional: -work on a website -practice practice practice – I have an engagement session scheduled and at least one senior session on the books! and later this summer some second shooting for a wedding! -work on building my portfolio -network/branding -continue learning the in’s and out’s of the “business” that I’m trying to break into. -second shoot some weddings. i feel very seriously about not diving head first into this business and saying that I would be willing to shoot a wedding without tons of practice under a mentor/pro. So that’s it friends. sorry it isn’t as exciting as the baby you all thought I was having.
photo a day.
So I think I am going to start trying to post a photo a day. I think that it will help me learn and grow as an aspiring photog.
I think I’ll start tomorrow.
I’ll try to post a picture of something I have snapped that day, but who knows.
This afternoon I was feeling creative and forced Ry outside in the cold to take pictures with me. (Thank you Christmas money for my tri-pod, I knew you would come in handy when we knew no one in a town and wanted a snapshot together.)
Side-note: I started subbing on Friday and boy am I going to have some funny stories to share.
Anyway, hope you Sunday is going well, it’s freezing here and was supposed to snow 1-8″ but instead its just super windy and gray.
I wish our fireplace worked…
stay warm friends.
blogs i be lovin’
ok friends, i need to share my love with you guys. and i feel like its time, we have warmed up to each other, you know a little bit about me, i know a little about you, it feels like a safe place where i can share something i deeply care for.
well that sounded so serious, for something so silly.
this little secret of mine is called BLOGLOVIN’
it is such a wonderful tool in my obsession with reading blogs that i be lovin’.
if you dont know what bloglovin’ is, whats wrong with you? have you been living under a rock? -ok kidding, i’ve only had one for about 5 months.
have you ever, opened up your lap top and got safari heated up and then typed in your favorite blog url into that white rectangle and then through the power of the interweb arrived at the blog, only to find that the blogger hasnt even posted a new blog? how did that make you feel? well, i would feel pissed. (ok thats a little extreme, but i would be sad some days)
so what does bloglovin’ have to do with any of this?
the answer: it solves the problem!
instead of typing in every url (or if your like me you had a bookmark titled ‘blogs’ and then just scrolled through and clicked on all of them until there was a new juicy blog post) you log in to your bloglovin’ account and vuala! if your favorite blogger has updated his or her blog, it will appear as updated! so no more clicking on every bookmark and going to the site to find out its not updated.
this is a screen shot of my account. it tells me i have 13 new posts and all i have to do is click on them to get sent right to the page!
and my new favorite part is that i can categorize them! so i have tabs for my favorite photog blogs, or christian women blogs, and DIY blogs! its all in one place and its all good.
so with all this talk about blogs, here are a few of my favorites.
http://www.kissthegroom.com/
- this is Elizabetha Messinas beautiful blog, if you havent heard of her or seen her work you havent actually lived. they are usually short, sweet and to the point, with a few pictures here and there. its real eye candy. i hope to take pictures as beautiful as hers one day.
http://rachelheldevans.com/blog
-rachel is a christian write, he tackles tough questions. she is a smart woman that isnt afraid to put her thoughts out there. – you are just going to have to check out her blog. its great. i love it. i dont want to give her a bad intro. so just see for yourself.
http://www.aholyexperience.com/
-ann voskamps blog. enough said.
http://lisacongdon.com/blog/
-her blog “today is going to be awesome” shows her 365 days of handwriting. sounds weird. but its it BEAUTIFUL. so pretty. i cant get over how much i like it.
http://www.cozycottagecute.com/
-this girl and i have the same taste in home decore. white. light grey. cream. hardwoods. the end.
http://chocolatecoveredkatie.com/
-this girl is about my age, and has been a vegan for like 13 years or something cray cray. but loves dessert. so she posts like a blog a day about some treat she has cooked up and its all vegan! cool huh?
http://www.indieprettyprojects.com/
-this girl owns a vintage paper store and posts beautiful pics of home decore, and things she baked and, you should just follow her.
http://shannoneileenblog.typepad.com/
this blog is a treat, its usually just pictures of something beautiful. it can be wedding stuff, home stuff, life stuff. its just great stuff.
so this just like 6 out of my 35ish blog i follow.
do you have an great ones that i would love?
-happy saturday friends.
p.s. if you get a bloglovin’ lemme know what you think!
Loni Love.
wednesday night ryan and i celebrated v-day by going to see Loni Love at the “comedy off broadway” in lexington.
it was a blast. he was hilarious and so was the opening act.
if you have ever seen chelsea lately (i used to watch it when i lived with girls and had cable) she is usually at the round table discussion, she’s a big funny black lady, who loves to talk about her weight, food, and some scandalous stuff (honestly not too scandalous, i was worried that i would want to leave because she would offend us so badly, but it didnt happen, in fact she even talked about how she is starting to read her bible more and not to give people with religion a hard time)
sadly i didnt get any pictures, but it was so fun, every time we do something awesome like that around her i like to write it down and think of the friends that will visit that will like that stuff, for instance i know noel and kate will love the comedy show and probably my parents and sister. and my dad will like the 4 bourbon distillery within 30 minutes of us. and we’ll have to take kyle and bryce to cincy for a football or baseball game while we are here!
it’s so fun living somewhere new with all of this new fun stuff to do!
sorry for the short post, but i just had to tell yall about going to a comedy show, and if you ever get the chance to go to one, do not hesitate!
Ryan.
In honor of valentines day I would like to take a moment to recognize my sweet valentine.
(Look at that face, what’s not to love?)
on any given day you can hear me call him, ry, ryan, ry-dog, marcum, ryan david, husband, babe, sugar, or sugar bear (he isn’t too fond of the last two because those names were first given to june, and now that she is no longer a permanent resident in our home those endearing names fall on ry)
but in all seriousness, ryan has been the best thing that ever happened to me.
so let me name the top 8 reasons i love ryan.
1. let me be superficial and has he is smokin hot, i basically get to wake up next to my better looking version of Johnny Depp everyday.
2. he is incredibly funny, on a daily basis he has me in tears because im laughing so hard, and something he has said or a face he has made. -a lot of people dont get to see this side, but trust me- he is hilarious.
3. he is incredibly smart. like probably too smart for his own good sometimes. and i just know he is going to dominate grad school!
4. he gives me skrickles on the reg. one of my main love languages is physical touch (as most anyone thats ever met me may know, ive been know to hold hands with friends while driving in the car-its weird i know.) and almost anytime i ask for “skricks” ry appeases me. (a skrickle is the perfect mix between a scratch and tickle- its heavenly)
5. he is so kind. he will sit and listen to me/anyone blab on about nothing, and been know to drive random strangers needing rides to different parts of town, whether it puts him out or not.
6. he encourages me. whether its to work out, or pursue a dream of mine, or to plant a garden he knows will die in a month. he is behind me 100% of the time.
7. he challenges me. he asks good questions that make me think, and i love/hate it haha because sometimes i cant defend something i thought which makes me reexamine what i said or thought. and sometimes it just encourages me!
8. he puts up with me. im no perfect wife, i dont fold laundry, i dont take out the trash, i forget to do the dishes, i dont clean the toilet often enough, i dont make the bed, i sometimes get to creative in the kitchen and make a horrible meal, and he still loves me!
i could go on and on, but im sure you guys would get bored.
ry- i love you so much, and cant wait to spend 100 more v-days with you!
hope everyone’s valentines day were great, and you got to spend it with your loved ones!
Fort Night.
yesterday was so great.
ha, that was vague.
it started with us sleeping in until 10 and waking up to a winter weather advisory-but no snow. we got ready slowly, then husband went to play basketball at noon, while i joined friends for lunch, then sat in a coffee shop window and watched the snow begin to fall.
we meet back up at the house at 2 to meet with someone from the “welcoming” committee, (she brought us brownies- so we liked her immediately) we chatted and sat with her for a while before she left and we got ready to drive to town and go see ‘the vow’ -sweet husband indulges my love for cheeky girl flicks.
we hoped in the car and took a route that led us through a darling neighborhood of hills, quaint homes, and picket fences (these are actually all very common sites for us-but i really enjoy this one because the homes aren’t colonial mansions, like a lot of the ones we see around here) we listened/i sang to my old school john mayer cd, drank my dirty chai, and took in the sites. it was one of those perfect moments. when you feel like you are exactly where you are supposed to be at that specific moment. i love these moments with ry, i even said something to the effect of dont forget this moment because its so perfect.
we ended up not loving the movie. but did enjoy critiquing it at Red Robin while we ate our ‘gourmet burgers’- mine the chicken caprese, husband-the usual, meat, and more meat.
at this point in the day its only like 6:30.
so we do what any self respecting 23/24 year olds would do.
GO HOME AND BUILD A FORT.
(bet you didnt expect that? or maybe you did by the title? or the overload of pictures i took of it last night and uploaded to every social media i am apart of)
the best part of the fort were the ‘fort rules’ -the rules were iron clad, there was no turning back, they had to be lived by.
one: only jammies are to be worn in the fort. (thats pretty obvious) two: only epic movies are to be watched in the fort : for this fort night we chose independence day- yes, the classic with will smith and jeff goldbloom. three: rules one and two are never to be broken. -ok i dont really remember the rest, but there were a few more. we just got so caught up in the moment that we were blurting things out. (and by we, i mean me.)we ended up sleeping in the fort because it was so awesome.
now i must head home and take down the fort. which is going to be really sad.
here are some fort/day pictures.
this is what i wore all day. haha snapped this to send to kyle and i looked so silly that i had to share. (and you can see the snow flurries is you look real close!)
ok ry loves star wars and i had to BEG him to take this.
caprese salad on a chicken sandwhich=heaven in your mouth.
our fort!!! and yes those are christmas lights down the middle!
these have nothing to do with our day, but i love my new ‘smoking shoes’ that i got them in green and black… ha
have a great weekend
